Petroleum Safety Awareness Training

EC Directive 96/35 requires companies involved in the transport, distribution and loading of dangerous goods consigned by road, rail or inland waterway to appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA).

DGSA's play a vital role in helping to prevent the consequences of the mishandling of Dangerous Goods placing people, property and the environment at unnecessary risk.

DGSA's must be qualified by having taken and passed an approved examination (download syllabus) and hold a current Vocational Training Certificate (VTC) before taking up their duties. You can download sample exam papers. There are no 'acquired rights'. Every DGSA must pass the approved examinations.

In the UK the examinations which are set and administered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and held four times each year in March, June, September and December, see exam dates and venues. DGSA North runs courses in advance of the exams to help you prepare. We run courses in the North-East of England but if preferred we can come to you anywhere in the UK.

Whether you are sitting the exams for the first time or refreshing your current certificate, why not call DGSA North to discuss your requirements.

Dangerous Goods Awareness Training

The Health and Safety at Work. Act 1974 [Regulation 2(2)(c)] contains general training requirements for everyone at work, and these are obviously relevant to the transport of dangerous goods. There is a similar requirement in the "Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations" and also in the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR).

These regulations place a requirement on the employer to ensure that all staff involved in the carriage of dangerous goods have received training and instruction appropriate to their duties and responsibilities to enable them to discharge their duties safely.

This applies to all staff, from drivers to office staff, warehouse operatives to container lift operators, forklift truck drivers to managers.

Bespoke Safety Training Courses

DGSA North can run bespoke training courses, tailored to suit the needs of your business and the roles of those being trained. Our courses are tailored to cover those modes of transport that are relevant to your business, focusing on the content that is relevant to your staff and not wasting time on material that is not applicable to their needs.

Our courses can be held at your premises, thereby minimising the time spent away from normal duties and also reducing costs. Why not call DGSA North to discuss your requirements.
